cinema : features Sad news for film fans: The Other Cinema Closes londonlostandfound are saddened and dismayed at the closure of one of London's best loved art house cinemas. The Other Cinema closed its doors on 14 November through lack of funds, after failing to generate enough public funding to pay for the increased rent on the building. Despite a campaign to save the venue and approaching numerous funding bodies, including the Arts Council and Film London, the required financial help has not been forthcoming. A haven for alternative film fans for over 20 years, The Other Cinema has always been a jewel in London’s art house crown. Highlights of its programme have included the Raindance film festival and screenings of cutting edge documentaries. It dared to take risks and champion film makers largely ignored by the mainstream, always remaining at the heart of London’s cultural landscape. |
