unusual : lost in london awards 2004

You've been there with us, through the beautiful exhibitions, the lushest bars, the most moving films, and best bed time reads. But which will win the
LOST IN LONDON 2004 AWARDS? Drum roll please...

Exhibition of the year...
THE WEATHER PROJECT
One of the most memorable exhibitions we've ever seen. So many enthusiastic faces all in one place is pretty rare in London - an event never to forget.

Film of the year...
BEFORE SUNSET
Richard Linklater’s follow up to 90s classic Before Sunrise. Intelligent, compelling and tender, this film proved that romance isn’t dead.

Bar of the year...
BAR STORY, 213 BLENHEIM GROVE, SE15
This small but perfectly formed bar has to be remembered for putting Peckham on the map.

Freebie of the year...
SHORT WAVE @ 93 FEET EAST, BRICK LANE
Where else will you get a whole Sunday's worth of entertaining films and quality bands for nothing?

Gig of the year...
NINA NASTSIA WITH THE TUVAN THROAT SINGERS @ QUEEN LIZ HALL
Nina is always special, but the sheer rareness of the set-up made it a stand-out.

Band of the year...
ISIS
Because with Panopticon they pulled off the impossible task of releasing a better record than their previous record, the monumental Oceanic, and because vocalist Aaron Turner also finds the time to run Hydra Head, one of the few record labels out there that you can trust.

Bizarre of the year...
TROPICANA FROM SHUNT
I'm not just nominating this night for it's name. We need more of these secret locations and more of this sort of strange shenanigans.

Book of the year...
HARD GRAFT
Polly Toynbee exceeded expectations with her tales of life on the Clapham Park Estate.
