unusual : lost in london awards 2005

And without further ado, we present the Lost in London Awards, highlighting the best in bands, boozers and buses from 2005, selected by the londonlostandfound.com team:

Exhibition of the year...
LONDON IN SIX EASY STEPS @ THE ICA
Plonk an East End Boozer slap bang in the middle of a high brow art establishment and see what happens. Genius!

Film of the year...
KINGS AND QUEEN
Director Arnaud Desplechin brings another slice of intelligent French cinema to the screen. This is how films should be made.

Bar of the year...
INSIDE 72
Still rockin’ South London – keep up the good work Steve and co!

Freebie of the year...
TRANCE ON THE THAMES @ FESTIVAL BEACH, SOUTH BANK
Who needs Ibiza when Londoners can dance themselves silly on our self styled shoreline!

Gig of the year...
THE PIPETTES
The Polka dotted Pipettes performing seasonal shenanigans at the Tapestry country and western night at St Aloysius Social Club in Camden.

Band of the year...
THE MYSTERY JETS
The band are from Eel Pie Island along the Thames, where the Rolling Stones performed secret gigs in the 60s in a Victorian Mississippi style hotel – sadly since burnt down.

Bizarre of the year...
KATE WINSLET'S DAD
Performing a song he’d written about pissing whilst wrapped up in cling film as part of the support for Art Brut at Goldsmiths bar.

Book of the year...
THE BUS WE LOVED BY TRAVIS ELBOROUGH
So long Routemaster. We will eternally miss the trip into town on the No.12.
