unusual : splash Surely no-one can love twitching as much as the Brits. I'm not talking about nervous ticks, but bird watching. Talking to friends and loved ones, it seems that there are bird lovers hidden in every unlikely corner. And to make the sport all the more accessible, you don't even have to travel far to find rare breeds and beauties. The London Wetland Centre is something of an anomaly in London, nestled just outside zone one. The Centre is a breeding ground and safe haven for over 180 wild bird species; you don't even get that on Hampstead Heath. There are over 100 acres of land for the birds to strut their stuff in, which sounds pretty big to me. You can sit in wooden viewing huts with your binos, or take a stroll around the extensive grounds, trying to spot the great and the good of the bird world. The Centre also hosts plenty of events - a barbeque and late openings on Thursdays, bat walks, wildflower trails, and exploration trips for the kids. It's not exactly the height of fashion, but ask around, and there will be a bad bird watcher waiting to be invited on an adventure in search of the Peregrine Falcon. Visit: http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/wetlandcentre/default.asp for ticket prices and further details.
